Better Days

I do not want to be one of those old people who wax nostalgic about the ‘old’ days, but, expletive here, what we’re living through right now is a shit show. David Crosby’s death brought up some of this for me, listening to the music from the 60’s and 70’s and realizing the hope we all had back then. ‘Almost Cut my hair’, ‘Teach Your Children’ — all of it was full of either warnings or promise or protest. In every picture I’m smiling or laughing. We smoked dope, did silly stuff and giggled a lot. What happened? Nixon? Bush? Trump? Kent State. A slow eroding of all we hold dear, like ethics, empathy. Money became king. Yes, I know we were never the white hats, but our generation, who are now being blamed for everything, were optimistic and hopeful about the future. We stopped a war. We brought the Eastern spiritual traditions to the west. I listened to the Dalai Lama up at UCSC in a meadow while people played frisbee and enjoyed the sunshine.

I guess all former generations talk about the old times and how much better it was, but in this case it’s true. Hope has gone out the window as our rights are systematically stripped and our supposed leaders take part in a plot to overthrow our government. And the worst part? NOTHING HAPPENS TO THEM! They are still in congress along with liars and people who shouldn’t even be considered for such a job. The Repug party wants to take away what FDR so painstakingly did for us. Without…
