Disheartened

To me, spiritual means the natural world, the world of trees, animals, the ocean, the sky, the sun and the moon and all the stars. The sacred ground we walk on. When you really think about it these are the only things that have any real meaning. Today I read an article in the Atlantic that took my breath away — and not in a good way.

I didn’t read all of it, but what I did read scared me. It is about the metaverse, (a virtual world) and how we are already in it. This has been written about in several sci-fi novels over the years. George Orwell-1984, Ray Bradbury- Fahrenheit 451, Aldous Huxley- Brave New World, Neal Stephenson-Snow Crash. Ring owners here, (you know, the doorbells that have cameras in them?) are watching the deliveries to their doors from Amazon and asking the drivers to dance for the camera. The drivers have done so and the videos have been posted on Tik Tok and gone viral— another person wrote her request on chalk on the path up to her door. I have no words for how devastatingly creepy this is. And I do wonder at the drivers complying. I would have given them the finger and left. But maybe they wanted to be immortalized on TikTok?

What we are heading toward is a world of entertainment only. And Fox news leads the pack. It seems pretty apt considering how so many people do not want to deal with reality. Please do not bring up ANYTHING that is disturbing. It’s easier to zone out…

In my real life I’m a fantasy/mystery author. What I’ve written so far on Medium have been political opinion pieces. But that is changing!
