Don’t want to be a Debby Downer, but…

I didn't know that this Debby Downer character was an SNL skit. But be that as it may, I have a few things to say about the unraveling of our country. Yes, Biden got some legislation through — wonderful. But let’s take a look at the enormous problems that face this country, issues that are not easily fixed by two parties that are playing a football game. To have a truly decent country we need:

1. immigration changes that are taken out of the political football game that is politics. Make some lasting policies that are not about taking children away from their parents, but are humane and fair and consider what immigrants actually do for this country, which is considerable.
2. Affordable health care, whether universal healthcare or Medicare for all. Too many people are unable to afford a doctor's visit and most end up in the ER. Take a look at other 1st world countries and even Mexico to see how their health care systems work. We have some crazy pervasive attitude here that universal health care is socialism and yet people are dying because they can’t afford insurance. It’s unconscionable in a country as rich as this one.
3. Rules and consequences for hate speech and lies broadcasted by social media and FOX news. They have systematically unraveled any sense of decency and emboldened the lunatic fringe.
