Dystopian novel…

I read an article this morning about where the planet is in terms of survival — it was terrifying. And yet the U.N.’s climate summit has not done much about fossil fuels as far as limiting them or holding countries to account. If this was a dystopian novel it couldn’t be much worse than what we are living through.

Instead of thinking abut the future of our children and grandchildren, many choose to ignore what’s happening. Instead they want to make as much money as they can. And of course this investment is made in oil and other companies that don’t give one fig for the survival of the planet. I guess I’m a crazy idealist because the idea of another Trump term or one of these so-called strong men who are being elected in other countries is astounding to me on so many levels. Trump supporters think Trump is strong because he spouts crap and wants to obliterate everyone who doesn’t support him. Democrats are vermin — a term take straight out of Hitler’s playbook. This not strength. It’s weakness. Don’t we know anything by now? It seems we don’t.

Being strong is being empathetic, thoughtful, considering the future. Crying. Not blustering around like an insane person talking about who has wronged you and how you plan to punish them. If you vote for a person like that you vote away our democracy.

In my real life I’m a fantasy/mystery author. What I’ve written so far on Medium have been political opinion pieces. But that is changing!
