Since it seems that we are on the brink of this sentiment becoming obsolete I have a few suggestions to bring things back into alignment. Good luck you say? I know — it won’t happen in my lifetime or perhaps ever, but I still want to list them.

  1. Get rid of Citizen’s United. This ruling ended equity in this country and unleashed the start of endless amounts of money coming into our elections. And the money is many times dark, which means we have NO idea where it’s coming from. It could be Russia, China, Hungary — This is not a democratic ruling as the word is defined…it made corporations into people which is a ridiculous idea to begin with. And not only that, all of our members of congress now have to spend their entire time raising money for re-election instead of doing the people’s business for which they were elected. Remember that these people are supposed to be working for us not themselves.
  2. Get money out of politics. This is a tag on to number 1. In the not so distant past we regulated how much money candidates could spend. The supreme court struck this law down since they claimed it violated 1st amendment rights. What it did was open elections up to ‘the one with the most money wins.’ Again, not in the best interests of the people. There are many now who want to reform our system to take money out of it, or at least to limit it. When I see the obscene amounts being spent I think to myself, my gods, this…

In my real life I’m a fantasy/mystery author. What I’ve written so far on Medium have been political opinion pieces. But that is changing!
