So depressed…

I am at the point now of hating my country. Another fucking oil spill, (dolphins swimming through it, wetlands destroyed) and learned this morning that there is NO legislation coming up on police reform — not even a ban on chokeholds. We elected a democratic president and won both houses and still are unable to get past the Republican senate. And they want no reform — everything must stay the same — no police reform, no gun legislation, no voting rights act— let the government go into default with another shutdown — the list goes on. The rich were given a tax break on their capital gains so that they might be inspired to put some money into projects for the poor — one of them is now building a Ritz Carlton in downtown Portland and putting up condos. And there are no restrictions to stop this — who would have thought that a rich person might flake on this idea? I mean, really. This is the country we live in.

And as far as I can see there will be little to no changes coming. If Biden can get even a part of his infrastructure bill through (his own party can’t even decide) I will be pleasantly surprised. Why can’t dems play at least a little bit of hardball? And the filibuster? Why are we balking on getting rid of it? I see the future and it does not look pretty — dems lose seats in 2022 (gerrymandering and voter suppression, not to mention our short term memory loss) and we get Trump back in 2024…we are a bunch of short…
