What we’ve learned
This past year, and actually the past four years, have definitely left an imprint on our brains, our psyches and our souls. The pandemic still looms large, but there are many other signposts along the way that pointed to the demise of everything we held dear.
In 2016 and earlier, Trump arrived in a swirl of dark smoke, taking the country by storm with his LOUD rhetoric. And the news people ate it up. He was front and center every day during that election, his face shown on every network all the time. The other contenders were put on the back burner as Trump filled the airways with his bombastic claims and his larger-than-life assurances of what he planned to do. I am convinced that the media had a lot to do with why this man was elected. That and the sudden news from former FBI director, James Comey, a mere two weeks before the election regarding Hillary’s emails.
And then the fun began. I won’t even bother to list the series of unfortunate events that flew at us on a daily basis, or the sudden turning of the Republican party from one of relative decency into apologists for a man who was already making a mockery of our constitution and everything it stands for. Every event that transpired, from Trump’s turning away from our Nato allies, to applauding autocratic leaders, had me and I’m sure others thinking: ‘Well, this can’t go on. Surely congress will admonish him for this behavior.”…
