Why I’m going back to Medium

For some reason I went down a rabbit hole and ended up on Substack…I have been trying for a while to get followers and to integrate into what I thought was a good place to find readers. I mean after all, Robert Reich posts there! As well as a lot of people I know from books etc…this is what I discovered:

Substack is good if you’re well known. Everyone is monetized. Getting followers is hard and frustrating. One more thing — in most cases you cannot leave a message unless you’re a paid subscriber — this is big for me because I ALWAYS have a comment.

Let’s take the monetized bit first. I detest it! Every time I start to read an article the last half is missing because I needed to pay money. My gods, is nothing free anymore? I think I’m over the paying thing after this election and the unending pleas for money which are still coming in. I’m tired of it! and I’m willing to not get paid for what I write here — I just want READERS! I have my books that bring in money, not much, but at least a little. Why do I need to charge for writing my thoughts down? I’m not that special.

Also when I inquired on Google I found out that I can have a newsletter on Medium. I like that! I’m an author and like to put up snippets about what I’m writing about (books, that is) and new releases and so on. Some seem to think that Medium is for beginners and Substack is…

In my real life I’m a fantasy/mystery author. What I’ve written so far on Medium have been political opinion pieces. But that is changing!
